  • They readily admit to being men of Little Ambition. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have any goals. It’s just that their goals aren’t lofty or highfalutin.

When the original four guys started jamming in Tony Coppola’s basement, they were just having fun playing. After they got good enough to think about the future, they realized their best bet was to stick with what they already had, which was fun playing.

“We’re old and wise enough to realize that playing a stadium filled with 100,000 screaming fans is probably not going to happen. There probably won’t be any tour busses, groupies, roadies, record deals, limos, music videos… ” they reasoned. They had families and jobs. There were things they couldn’t do, but what they could do was have a good time playing music.

The first four were Tony and his brother Mike (now guitarist and drummer),  Mike Young on lead guitar and Big Dave Chapman on bass. They invited their friend Dave Campman to join in on guitar and vocals, and then Tom Costarell as prinicipal vocalist.

They keep adding new songs to their repertoire of classic and southern rock covers, and new fans to their laid-back style.

Costarell acknowledged the packed house as Little Ambition kicked off their first set at Jumpin’ Jack’s recently. “A lot of our friends usually come out,” he said. “There are 20-40 folks who come to every one of our shows, and some of them aren’t even here yet.”

Having fun seems to be motivation enough for fans, too.
